Prayer For Spiritual Growth

Hi all - this is from our message on Sunday...

Colossians 1:9-12

9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.

In this passage, we find that Paul was continually praying for the Colossians.  He was praying for their spiritual growth in three areas....

Paul was "asking" - "that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will" (this filling is not guaranteed - we must ask for God's help and choose to desire this).

#1 "That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing (Him)"

This walking is Practiced, Purposeful, and Pleasing to the Lord.

#2 "Being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;"

In every good work we are to be fruitful and that we desire to learn by His Word.

#3 "strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;"

In every ability we are enabled with His strength - so that we can endure with JOY!!!

The final part of Paul's prayer, he was giving thanks to God.

So...

Are we praying for other's spiritual walk?

How are we doing ourselves???

Are we walking with the purpose to PLEASE THE LORD???

Are we producing good works and continuing to grow in the LORD???

I pray that everyday we choose to serve the LORD with gladness!!!

Have you ever heard of little arrow prayers? We can send them up all day long!

Thanks for your encouragement!
